Living Walls Abroad

Living Walls Abroad is an exchange program that supports the development of local artists and celebrates the importance of cultural exchange. The program gives a local Atlanta-based artist the opportunity to go overseas to create a piece of public art and in return, Living Walls hosts an international artist to create a piece of public art in Atlanta. The goal of this exchange program is to learn from other artists and organizations from around the world while having conversations about the process of creating public art and how women and LGBTQIA-identifying artists take up space across the globe.

2022 - Atlanta, Ga ↔ Mexico City, Mexico

In October 2022, Atlanta artist SOFAHOOD painted a mural at Plazuela San Joaquín in Mexico City.

Then, Mexico City-based artist MAREMOTO painted a mural at Agnes Scott College in Decatur, Ga.

To wrap up the exchange, we hosted our Business of Mural Arts Workshop and panel discussion at the site of the mural at Agnes Scott College. We invited students and community members to learn about the process of mural production, providing tools and resources to help them in their artistic careers. At the panel discussion, the artists talked about their experiences and shared a bit about what it means to be queer Latinx artists working in the public space, while the artists and audiences enjoyed food served by Mariposas Rebeldes, a collective of Queer, Trans, Latinx, Indigenous organizers in Atlanta.

This project was made possible with the support of Gucci Changemakers, Unity Media, Agnes Scott College, Flux Projects, and General Paint.
