This mural is part of Living Walls Abroad: Nuevos Monumentos, an international exchange of artists between Atlanta and Mexico City. In October 2022, SOFAHOOD traveled to Mexico City to paint this mural, and Mexican artist MAREMOTO traveled to Atlanta to paint a mural at Agnes Scott College. The goal of this program is to create an exchange of ideas, cultures, and talents around the world through public art, and to provide a platform for LGBTQ+ women artists to imagine new monuments.

MAREMOTO (ella/elle) is an illustrator and muralist living in Mexico City whose work explores the experiences of women in today’s world: what happens, what hurts, what makes them angry and happy.

In Mexico, we don’t see a lot of monuments representing women and queer experiences. I painted what I want to see: love between women, nonbinary and trans people.
