The Department of City Planning (DCP), in collaboration with the Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA), Westside Future Fund, and Living Walls, is seeking qualifications from artists or artist teams in Metro Atlanta for the commission of four separate outdoor installations in the English Avenue Neighborhood. These artistic enhancements will reflect the cultural identity of the neighborhood through the arts and infrastructure improvements.

Submissions must be received no later than February 25, 2024 at 11:59pm. Submissions received after the deadline will not be considered.

Southwest Bus Shelter

A partnership with MARTA will result in an artistic upgrade in the existing bus shelter on the Southwest corner of the intersection. Chosen artists will design a vivid digital mockup to be installed over the glass window panes. 

Applicants must be able to create a digital illustration or design compatible for large format printing. Digital design refers to the creation of visual content using digital tools and technology. 

Artist fee: $5,000 (design only)

Northwest Sculptural Bus Shelter

A collaboration between MARTA and DCP will upgrade this intersection to include a custom sculptural bus shelter on the northwest corner of Cameron Madison Avenue and James P. Brawley Drive.

Applicants should have experience in digital design and fabrication, and understand the basics of graphic design using industry standard tools & software. Artists should be able to communicate clearly to fabricators and be prepared to meet frequently with Living Walls, MARTA, ATLDOT, and DCP. 

Artist fee: $10,000 (design only)

Yellow Store Mural

The former Yaril Grocery store also known as the “Yellow Store” will be refurbished this year and is the site for a new mural. 

Applicants must have experience painting at a large scale, working in outdoor conditions, working with a team of assistants, time management, and collaboration. Overall, past mural experience is preferred. 

Artist fee: $10,000 (design & production)

Crosswalk Mural

There are two 25’ crosswalks (across Cameron Madison Alexander Boulevard) and two 23’ crosswalks (James P. Brawley Drive) that will be designed and painted according to the standards in the Tactical Urbanism Guide.

Applicants must be able to create a digital illustration or design compatible for large format printing. Digital design refers to the creation of visual content using digital tools and technology. Crosswalk fabrication will be contracted externally.

Artist fee: $4,000 (design only)
